Rare Signed Black 6" Oval Akro Agate Planter / Guernsey Glass

Description

Guernsey  Glass  in  an  Akro  Agate  mould  is  the
simplest  explanation here  .  After  the  Akro  Agate  fire
in  1951 ,  the  Guernsey  Glass  Co  ended  up  with  several
of   Akro's  moulds ,  one  of  which  was  the  6 "  oval
planter  mould  .  Owner , Harold  Bennett ,   continued
production  of  this
piece  in  heavily  modified  downward
numbers .  A  few
planters  continued  to  have  the  Akro
Bird  Logo  , a
few  had  an  obliterated  bump  where  the
bird  logo
" was " ..... eventually  the  mould  was  modified
to
show  the  Guernsey  trade  mark , the  B  inside  a
Triangle  (  for  the  owning  Bennett  family ) .
With  a  strong  light  behind  it , Picture  4  shows
the
" Reddish - Amber " of  Guernsey's   Black  glass ......
Picture  5  shows  the  purple  amethyst  of  Akro's  Black
glass .
The  6 "  oval  planter  in  Black  is  very  rare  in
Akro  ,  and  very  nearly  as  rare  in  Harold
Bennet's  Black  signed  planters  . This  is  a  superb
example , measuring  3  3/8 "  wide , 6  1/8 "  long  ,  and
standing  2  7/16"  high  ..... with
NO  damage  like
chips , flakes , dings , bruises , or  cracks  .....  NO
unsightly  bubbles , scratches , stains , or  utensil  marks  .
